Behind the Grill

Mental Grillness is a Manitoba-based food business serving creative, unconventional comfort food inspired by mental-health experiences. We combine bold flavours, playful humour, and a distinctive brand to bring people together, raise mental-health awareness, and make people smile. Through food, pop-up events, merchandise, and creative products, we're building a brand that goes beyond the traditional food trailer.

Meet the Founder
Carlos Bartsch, founder of Mental Grillness

Carlos Bartsch · Founder

I've always loved food, but I've also always loved making people happy. There's something special about being able to bring people together over a good meal, share a laugh, and make someone's day just a little bit better.

Mental Grillness grew out of those two passions, along with a personal appreciation for the importance of mental health. Life isn't always easy, and many of us spend a lot of time dealing with things that other people can't see. I wanted to create something that could acknowledge those experiences without making them feel intimidating, overly serious, or difficult to talk about.

The idea was simple: take some of the familiar experiences of living with mental health challenges and turn them into creative, unconventional food concepts. Give them ridiculous names, pair them with genuinely good food, and build a brand that makes people smile while quietly reminding them that they're not alone.

I'm not a doctor, a therapist, or someone who claims to have all the answers. I'm just someone who understands that sometimes a little humour, a good meal, and a genuine human connection can go a long way.

Mental Grillness is my way of combining the things I love with something I believe matters. I want to build a business that serves more than just food. If someone leaves with a full stomach, a smile, or even the feeling that somebody understands them a little better, then I've accomplished something worthwhile.

And if we can have a little fun along the way, all the better.
